Social Media 101: Losing the Fear in 45 Minutes

Social Media 101: Losing the Fear in 45 Minutes
June 3, 2010 - 11:30 a.m. EDT

Social media and social network marketing are part of today’s new world of PR. There’s no escaping it. And while this scares many individuals and organizations, it needn’t. If you understand what it’s about, and have clear goals about what you’re trying to achieve with your marketing and communication activities, you’ll be better equipped to make smart decisions about whether social media and network marketing makes sense for your organization.

Social media and networks allow you to listen to what people are saying about your company, your products, your competitors, and your industry. That’s free market research, people! From a way larger sample size than you’re going to get doing a phone survey. What’s not to like? And, when traditional media is no longer the only way to generate interest and profile – a recent study found that approximately 60 percent of journalists use social networking sites and just over half make use of Twitter for online research – shouldn’t you at least consider how social media might work for you?

Join Chris White (California Fuel Cell Partnership) and Rebecca Johnston (Puzzlewood Communication) as they share what they’ve learned over the past couple of years, incorporating social media into communication strategies, and learning that posting to Facebook and Twitter is actually work!
